The University today
V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University is a higher education institution of rich, century-long history with a vast network of academic and research facilities. The university has about 7,000 members of staff and over 32,000 students, including about 3,000 international students from more than 50 countries.
Today, V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University comprises 42 units located across Crimea, including 11 academies and institutes and 6 colleges.
The university's history is deeply entwined with the history of Crimea. It was the tumultuous 20th century that saw the emergence of a number of powerful educational institutions in Crimea, which, in their brief period of existence, gained recognition and fame in scholarly circles, made an invaluable contribution to the development of global and national science, and produced a number of world-renowned researchers, writers, and public figures.
Today, the university carries on a variety of educational, teaching, research, and training activities which enable its students to acquire and develop a broad range of knowledge and skills in an array of fields, including science, art, humanities, medicine and many others.
V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University regularly hosts a wide range of both national and international forums, conferences, roundtables and other events.
The university has cooperation agreements with leading national and foreign institutions for higher learning, regulatory bodies, Crimean and Russian companies and organisations. Being committed to promoting the development of research and science in the region, Vernadsky CFU initiates the establishment and development of various research and science institutions involving the active participation of its students and staff.
Training is delivered in a variety of settings beyond the traditional classroom, including language laboratories, fully-equipped specialized classrooms, multimedia classrooms, at student farms and partner companies. The university's unique, well-equipped library, rich both in training materials and research and fiction books, offers students a wide range of learning resources, services and facilities.
The university maintains strong relations with its international partners within various research projects, students and staff academic mobility programmes.

KAZAN FEDERAL UNIVERSITY
Kazan University is one of the oldest universities in Russia – it celebrated its 215th anniversary in 2019. We considered this milestone as another token of the university's dedication to its longstanding academic mission as one of the leading educational institutions in Russia and in the world.

Strategy ‘5 TOP 100’

History & Honors
Creation of the Kazan Imperial University after the Affirmative Letter and the Charter signed by the Emperor Alexander I
The institution formed a number of big and famous scientific schools (mathematics, chemical, medical, linguistic, geological. geobotanical)
The outstanding alumnus and scholar of Kazan University Ivan Simonov participated in the discovery of Antarctica and pioneered Antarctic studies
Nikolai Lobachevsky, former Rector of Kazan University, developed non-Euclidean geometry, also referred to as Lobachevskian geometry
Since the first half of the 19th century Kazan University has been the largest center of Oriental Studies in Europe and the alma-mater to the world famous Kazan Linguistic School founded by Baudouin de Courtney
Professor Karl Ernst Claus discovered the chemical element and named it after Ruthenia, the Latin word for Russian
Leo Tolstoy, a great Russian writer and thinker, finished his studies at the University
Aleksandr Butlerov a Russian chemist, who also founded the famous Kazan (Butlerov) school, founded the theory of organic chemical compounds structure, of organic chemists
Kazan State University was named after Vladimir Ulyanov-Lenin, who studied law at the university
Professor of Biochemistry Vladimir Enhelhardt discovered the phenomenon of oxidative phosphorylation which has been one of the major contributions of Russian scholars to the world science
Soviet experimental physicist Evgeny Zavoysky discovered the phenomena of electronic paramagnetic resonance, one of the most significant physical events of the 20th century
Foundation of Kazan Department of the Soviet Academy of Sciences
Semen Altshuler proposed the theory of acoustic paramagnetic resonance which later signified the basics of new research area - quantum acoustics
